The Local Taco

May 23, 2016

the local taco lexington

The stretch of road that runs through downtown is covered with many different kinds of restaurants, bars, and local businesses. Located at 315 South Limestone sits The Local Taco.

I love how they state what they are about: “Embracing the simple pleasures of Tex-Mex cuisine with the traditions & character of Southern food culture.”

A lot of the ingredients are local, which is a huge plus in my book. Currently, The Local Taco has six locations; located in Kentucky, Tennessee, and South Carolina, and two opening up in Alabama. Also, on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 3pm, they offer a brunch along with $1 mimosas and $3 Bloody Marys. If you think tacos are good for lunch and dinner, just wait until you bite into one of the ones that are exclusively available during brunch.

I present to you… Chicken Bacon Waffle tacos served with agave nectar and your choice of two sides (which I got two orders of fried potatoes). If you order the Kentucky brunch, you actually get your choice of two tacos and sides. I just ordered two of the same thing, because the choice was clear… C-H-I-C-K-E-N  B-A-C-O-N  W-A-F-F-L-E  T-A-C-O! How could I resist?

If you ask me, I think it’s pretty genius that they took such an iconic dish, such as chicken and waffles and combined it with another dish that people love, tacos.

They also offer catering, so do you know what that means? You can have your wedding catered or whatever event of your choosing. If you do, be sure to send me an invitation, so I can eat some tacos with you.

Thanks so much.

Now that looks amazing! If I am ever in Fayette I will definitely have to stop their for brunch!

    • Whitney @ Fabulous in Fayette May 23, 2016 at 1:23 pm

You should!! It’s really delicious! You won’t regret it! I live in Lexington. Fayette just refers to the county the city is in 🙂

  • Raquel Harbin May 24, 2016 at 5:45 pm

Okay WHAT?! This is genius. I need to go here. Now added to my bucket list. Thank you!

    • Whitney @ Fabulous in Fayette May 24, 2016 at 8:58 pm

They were so yummy that I definitely could’ve eaten way more than the two I got hahah!! Plus, a lot of ingredients are local!

  • The Gifted Gabber May 25, 2016 at 1:38 am

Wow! Those chicken waffle tacos look amazing! And how can you not go to a place with $1 mimosas? Seems like a most fabulous place to dine. — Amy @ http://thegiftedgabber.com/

    • Whitney @ Fabulous in Fayette May 25, 2016 at 2:06 am

They are so delicious!! I plan on going back soon with my husband!! They also use local ingredients, which is a huge plus!!

  • Amanda Love June 1, 2016 at 2:51 am

I think I might be one of the few people who don’t like chicken and waffles. The Local Taco isn’t here in our state but I’d love to eat there if I’m ever in one of those 4 states.

    • Whitney @ Fabulous in Fayette June 2, 2016 at 12:48 am

🙁 Chicken and waffles is soooo good!! They also have other tacos (but not traditional tacos) during lunch/dinner!!

  • Robin Rue June 1, 2016 at 6:09 am

I have never had chicken and waffles. I think it must be a southern thing because they are pretty much non existent up here in Boston.

    • Whitney @ Fabulous in Fayette June 2, 2016 at 12:49 am

You are missing out!! Yep, it’s southern. It’s soul food. If you ever get a chance, try it! It may seem a little weird to combine chicken, waffles, and syrup, but it is soooo delicious!

  • CrazyShenanigans June 1, 2016 at 9:00 am

    That food looks yummy!

  • Nellwyn June 1, 2016 at 9:05 am

Looks amazing! These are all my favourite foods wrapped up in one!

These sound so interesting! And exactly like something my husband would order 🙂

  • Kori June 1, 2016 at 11:55 am

That does sound quite tasty. I’ve never been one to turn down chicken, bacon, or waffles.

  • Cara of Stylish+Geek Blog June 1, 2016 at 12:12 pm

I do not think we have a taco place like that in my area, so I envy you! Would love to try the Chicken Bacon Waffle tacos! Sounds so yummy!

    • Whitney @ Fabulous in Fayette June 2, 2016 at 12:52 am

It was sooo good! I looked online at the other Local Tacos, and I think the location where I live is the only one that has the chicken bacon waffle tacos! (I’m not sure since I haven’t been to the others, but there are some that don’t even offer brunch)

  • Pete Cataldo June 1, 2016 at 12:14 pm

Okay, so I’ve made yet another mistake to click on one of your posts because now, I want nothing more than to indulge in one of these waffle tacos! LOL … Those look stupid good. I live in NYC, so I can’t visit a Local Taco anytime soon, but perhaps I can figure out how to replicate this ridiculous creation. Haha. Thanks for sharing!

    • Whitney @ Fabulous in Fayette June 2, 2016 at 1:04 am

It was so good! Two wasn’t nearly enough!! I’m sure you could make it yourself… or you can make yourself a full-sized portion. Could be fun? 😉 Saul Good (just a restaurant here in Lexington) has the best chicken and waffles that I’ve had so far (no tacos with theirs though!) https://www.instagram.com/p/9kNGa4y9EV

  • JeeYoung June 1, 2016 at 12:43 pm

    GENIUS! You’re making me drool!

  • Rachel Zampanti Langer June 1, 2016 at 1:19 pm

My son would really love this! What a fun twist on the traditional.

  • Jessica Hughes June 1, 2016 at 1:46 pm

Oh man these looks delicious, my husband would go nuts over these!

  • Jacqueline Snoderly June 1, 2016 at 1:49 pm

I am dying over here! Wow…this looks so goooood!

    • Whitney @ Fabulous in Fayette June 2, 2016 at 1:07 am

It was good!! When I found out about them, I just knew I had to try them, since chicken and waffles is one of my faves!

  • Terri Steffes June 1, 2016 at 3:51 pm

Oh wow! For the first time I wish we were driving to Williamsburg! I could stop by!

    • Whitney @ Fabulous in Fayette June 2, 2016 at 1:07 am

If you are ever in Kentucky, you should!! I’m not sure where Williamsburg is?? I think when I looked it up, it’s about 2.5 hours away from Lexington!

  • Vicky Perreault June 1, 2016 at 6:49 pm

That looks like an awesome menu with all the flavors I love!

    • Whitney @ Fabulous in Fayette June 2, 2016 at 1:08 am

I’m just sad they only have it on the weekends during brunch… but they have plenty of other tasty ones for lunch and dinner!

  • sara June 1, 2016 at 8:22 pm

I love these tacos! I want to make something like this over the weekend.

  • Rebecca @ Happily the Hicks June 1, 2016 at 9:00 pm

Those look so interesting, but I’d LOVE to try them!! I wish they had a location in Texas!

  • Rebecca Bryant June 1, 2016 at 9:18 pm

Oh My that looks so good. I do enjoy tacos especially if I’m not cooking them.

    • Whitney @ Fabulous in Fayette June 2, 2016 at 1:55 am

They also have some pretty good tacos during lunch/dinner… not the “traditional” ones that one would think!! Pretty creative ones 🙂

  • tp keane June 1, 2016 at 10:34 pm

that looks fantastic. Great comfort food while still being tasty and different.

  • Ana De Jesus June 2, 2016 at 2:49 am

It looks delicious! I do love tacos and it is great twist on the classic using waffles. I like the sound of agave nectar too!

    • Whitney @ Fabulous in Fayette June 2, 2016 at 6:56 pm

It’s such a great combination. Usually with chicken and waffles, you use syrup, but I’m guessing that would’ve made the tacos soggy… Whether it is syrup or agave nectar, it’s a must to make the dish complete!

  • jillconyers June 2, 2016 at 3:26 am

That is an interesting combination. I didn’t even know chicken and waffles was a thing until I moved to Ohio. People think it’s crazy I haven’t tried them.

    • Whitney @ Fabulous in Fayette June 2, 2016 at 6:56 pm

It’s such a great dish… one of my favorites!! It’s more of a Southern thing! We have so many restaurants with it on the menu!

  • Roxanne Ferber June 2, 2016 at 9:21 am

Very interesting combo! I have heard of chicken and waffles, but never as a taco with added bacon. Will have to give this a try at home!

  • Debra Hawkins June 2, 2016 at 2:17 pm

Oh my word, you had me at bacon taco. I need that in my life ASAP!

  • Di Hickman June 2, 2016 at 5:56 pm

This just seems wrong having waffles in a taco! I think it’s probably one of those things you just gotta try to appreciate.

    • Whitney @ Fabulous in Fayette June 2, 2016 at 6:59 pm

Definitely not wrong haha 🙂 This isn’t your traditional taco place. It’s more of a mix with Southern food and Tex Mex. Plus, a lot of the ingredients are local. They have other tacos like smoked brisket, tequila lime chicken, buffalo chicken, local BBQ, etc.

  • Wendy Polisi June 2, 2016 at 9:05 pm

This looks like such a fun place to visit.

  • Leslie Hernandez June 3, 2016 at 10:55 am

This looks yummy!! Just by the look of the food, I would so visit that place just to eat lol…

  • Becca Dorr June 3, 2016 at 1:07 pm

WOW. I mean, I like chicken, but I like bacon, waffles, and tacos a LOT. I am always hesitant to try foods that are weirdly mixed together like this, but they always turn out to be SO GOOD!

    • Whitney @ Fabulous in Fayette June 3, 2016 at 3:48 pm

Chicken and waffles is such an iconic dish here in the South. It’s amazing!! If you ever get the chance to try them, do it! (P.S. Don’t forget the syrup!)

Chicken and waffles is one of my fave dishes. I usually get it for dinner at another one of my fave restaurants!!

  • Heather June 3, 2016 at 5:36 pm

OH my goodness! I wish this was close to me…I could definitely go for something like this right about now. It sounds amazing 🙂

  • Sarah Koves June 3, 2016 at 7:52 pm

You had me at mimosas, bloody mary, and chicken and waffle tacos! This looks like a great restaurant.

  • Erin Shebish June 4, 2016 at 10:49 am

Oh my goodness, this looks amazing! Seriously. I need to find my way there one day!

  • Eileen Murphy Kelly June 4, 2016 at 7:09 pm

Wow, that looks amazingly delicious! I could also go for one of those Bloody Mary’s, delish! I think Long Island needs to add The Local Taco, yum!

    • Whitney @ Fabulous in Fayette June 15, 2016 at 1:27 am

Right now, it’s in the South, but maybe it will eventually expand to the North one day! Or you can always come down here 🙂
