  • 8:30am Tour Keeneland Race Course (outdoors/kid friendly/horses): For guests interested in learning the history of Keeneland and an overview of operations for both racing and sales, guided walking tours are available. This outside walking tour with an experienced Tour Guide takes guests through the Keeneland Paddock and Grandstand, grounds, and when available, to the world-renowned Sales Pavilion. Following the trackside tour, fans are invited to visit the Keeneland Library, one of the world’s largest repositories of information related to the Thoroughbred.   • 8:30am: Sweat Series with Caroline Kaplan at lululemon (health/fitness/wellness): Don’t miss our class with Caroline. Weather made us cancel last time so we’re excited she’s coming back to sweat with us.
  • 8:30am: Yoga at the Museum at The Kentucky Horse Park (health/fitness/wellness): The Kentucky Horse Park’s International Museum of the Horse will present a new, free Yoga in the Museum series in 2018 with the partnership of Chelsey Reid of Red Horse Yoga in Georgetown, Ky., beginning January 25, 6:30 – 7:30 p.m. These complimentary, hour-long community yoga classes will be held among the exhibits in the museum and will focus on grounding through breath and gentle movement in sequences that are welcoming to both beginner and experienced yogis. Participants should check in at the museum’s front desk upon arrival, and should bring a mat or towel, and water. (Recurring).

Bring your sketchbook and materials of your choice, sit down for a quiet session of looking and sketching. Whether you want to think in color or with a simple pencil, you are welcome.   • 9am: Winter Bird Walk and Great Backyard Bird Count at Floracliff Nature Sanctuary (outdoors): Join us for a scenic walk as we search for birds and maybe some early wildflowers, followed by tea at the Nature Center. Hiking level will be easy to moderate. Please wear appropriate hiking shoes and weather appropriate clothing. Bring water, binoculars or a camera, and hiking poles if you prefer. Meet at the store at 8:30 to caravan or at the Nature Center before 9:00am, so we can collect waivers. We ask that participants bring a $5 – $10 donation to help support conservation work at the sanctuary. A maximum of 15 people can go so please call the store to register 859-268-0114.
  • 10am: 21c Yoga with Art – Patrice Keitt at the 21c Museum Hotel Lexington (fitness/health/wellness): This fun class will be in the Art Gallery! Find your inner peace at 21c Museum Hotel Lexington’s weekly Sunday yoga series. Perfect the art of oneness as you work through a variety of poses. Not only is this the perfect hat for those in-between season days that we have so many of, it is the perfect hat for a beginner wanting to get into hats.   • 3pm: Teen Arts Festival at the Singletary Center for the Arts (music): Join us for the Teen Arts Festival as we showcase all of our wonderful groups! One ticket gets you into all three concerts! Tickets available: HERE.
  • 4pm: Owl Prowl & Wine Tasting at Talon Winery (alcohol/outdoors): We will meet at the Talon Tasting Room at 4:00pm, sample some wines, and take turns watching and waiting for the appearance of Short-Eared Owls over Talon’s fields. We don’t expect the owls until more like 5:00+, but Talon closes at 6:00pm on Sundays so we figured we’d get there early to taste their wares and enjoy some conversation. Bring your cameras since with luck we’ll have owls and enough light to get some good pictures. Please RSVP to President@CKAS.org so we can give Talon a count of how many people to expect.   • 4pm: Ramen Olympics 2018 Winter Games at the Atomic Ramen (food/games): It’s the first ever RAMEN OLYMPICS hosted by Atomic Ramen! Events include: Ramen Trivia, Ingredient ID, Chopstick Skills, Edamame Guessing, Noodle Powerlifting, Noodle Slurping. There will be gift cards & prizes galore & bragging rights for eternity! Monday, February 19, 2018 – PRESIDENT’S DAY!

  • 5:15am: Body Back Bring a Friend Day at Fit4Mom Lexington (health/fitness): Want to see first-hand what the Body Back program is about? Join us for one of three FREE Body Back classes for a women-only workout, no kids, no excuses– just us working hard and cheering each other on! (Class also on Monday, February 19 at 8pm and Saturday, February 24 at 7am).
  • 7:45am: President’s Day, No School Day Classes at The Living Arts & Science Center (art/crafts/kid friendly): When school is out, fun is in at the LASC. Students pre-school to high-school enjoy classes that spark their imagination in a fun, inspiring environment with first-class instruction. Full day and half day schedules available with AM and PM extended hours for your convenience. Lunch period is included for full day students, BYOL (bring your own lunch). Free time provided outdoors when weather permits.
  • 9am: President’s Day STEM Program at Newton’s Attic (kid friendly): Drop in for a half day or full day of fun…Newton’s Attic style! This fun and flexible day will incorporate a variety of STEM activities and demonstrations with programs appropriate for ages 6 to 16. Multiple activity options make each experience unique.   • 10am: GBBC at the Arboretum (outdoors/kid friendly): Join CKAS and the Arboretum staff for the Great Backyard Bird Count, a citizen science project of Cornell’s Lab of Ornithology. Enjoy a short introduction to basic bird identification and the Merlin bird ID app (please download for free in advance from http://merlin.allaboutbirds.org/) and e-bird citizen science reporting. Then we’ll hike around the Arboretum to count and record the birds we see. Your participation will help scientists track bird migrations and populations! Bring binoculars and smart phones and dress in layers for the weather. Family friendly, but recommended for ages 7+. Suggested Donation: $3/person or $5/family, cash or check only. Come for a little bit to see what the kitchen has to offer, or stay for a long time and leave with a freshly made winter squash (pumpkin) pie! There will be activities like coloring for very young kids, as well as stations for rolling out crust, making the pie filling, scooping squash seeds, and baking small pies for everyone to take home!
  • 2pm: Tween Escape Room: Island Escape at the Lexington Public Library – Main Street Location (games/kid friendly): Calling all tweens! Can you “breakout” of this not-so-tropical vacation?
  • 4pm: SCAPA Live! at The Barn at The Summit (performance/cause): Come out to The Barn at The Summit on Presidents’ Day and enjoy the many varied talents of our Bluegrass & Lafayette SCAPA students! All businesses at The Barn will also generously donate a portion of sales during this event back to SCAPA, so plan to eat, shop & be entertained…it will be a fun time! And don’t forget to invite your friends!
  • 6pm: Bits + Brews at Rock House Brewing (alcohol/games): Throw back some beer. Throw your controller. It’s our first Bits + Brews challenge. Classic video game tournament and local craft beer. Little Theater (art/free): Mr. Burns, a Post-Electric Play by Anne Washburn explores the apocalypse and the rebuilding of society through the lens of The Simpsons. All tickets are free and just need to be reserved!   • 8pm: Michael Cruse Trio at Creaux (music): Born in Lexington, Kentucky: Michael Cruse is a soulful musician taking audiences by storm. As a kid, Michael was surrounded by music as he grew up in Church where most of the musicians were family. At a young age, Master Musician Charles Quillings took Michael under his wing where he became infatuated with the sound of the Trumpet and discovered a strong love for music. Michael at a young age also began working with Charles F. Little Jr. on the piano as well. Michael attended The University of Cincinnati – College-Conservatory of Music on scholarship for Jazz Trumpet Performance. Michael is consistently performing in several regions with his group The Michael Cruse Quintet, The Clifton Collective other bands such as The Company Band, Hot Magnolias, and various other small groups. As well as recently joining the cast of the movie “Miles Ahead” as N.Y.C. based trumpeter-Ernie Royal, starring Don Cheadle as Miles Davis(r. April 2016). Michael’s soulful sound on trumpet is one that you will not forget as well as his beautifully composed works as well.

February 5-24, 2018: Love Your Downtown – Georgetown, Kentucky

Love locally with Georgetown’s Love Your Downtown event! From Feb. 5-24, locals and visitors can pick up a FREE LYD passport at participating businesses in Downtown Georgetown. The Love Your Downtown passport encourages the public to visit local businesses in our downtown in efforts to receive passport stamps/signatures. After visiting 10 or more locations, participants can turn in their passport at one of the businesses to be entered to win a basket full of merchandise!
