If you know anything about bourbon, then you would know how coveted the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection is, because everyone wants to get their hands on one of the bottles. The Buffalo Trace Antique Collection is also hard to come by, due to it being available in very limited quantities. You can’t just walk in the door and get a bottle of this!
If you live in Kentucky, especially in Lexington or Louisville, and you aren’t on Liquor Barn’s email list, you need to be. This is how you will know about the upcoming special releases. If you aren’t, by the time you find out (and if you find out), it will be far too late to do anything about it.
On Friday, October 14, I received an email about the lottery for the Buffalo Trace Antique Collection. The bottles included in the lottery were: George T. Stagg, Eagle Rare 17 year, William Larue Weller, Thomas H. Handy Rye, and Sazerac Rye 18 year. Inside the email were the details about the lottery.
Obviously if you are reading this, then you know I’m a Proud Kentuckian. After all, my blog is called ‘Fabulous in Fayette,’ and is about anything related to Lexington and Kentucky. It definitely shouldn’t come as a shock to anyone.
I love Halloween, and I love dressing up. Over the years, I would never put any thought into my costume. I would just go to a costume store and pay $60 to be a sexy whatever. Over the past few years, I wanted to wear more clever costumes, as well as creating my own with stuff that I already had or could use again.
In 2014, I went as Jessica Day from New Girl. I already dress similar to her and my hair was the same as hers back then, so it wasn’t really a stretch. In 2015, I went as Pizza Rat from the viral video (which has 9.57 million views). Everyone (and even strangers) know me for my love of pizza. I mean, you should see the amount of pizza related apparel I own. I even own a pizza purse! In fact, in one year, I went to grand openings for four different pizza restaurants! Pizza Rat just fit and was perfect for me, since it was basically my spirit animal. However, it was in fact one of the most popular costumes of 2015.
So, in 2016, I wanted to top last year, and I wanted to do something completely unique and original. I didn’t want my costume to be a copy or something that has been done to death. I was laying in bed one night, around September 25, and trying to decide what I wanted to be. All of a sudden, the idea came to me!
I have a little something different for y’all today. I’m going to share my results from a product that I received from Smile Brilliant. They provided me with a professional teeth whitening kit that you could do at home.
My teeth are pretty white as is, because I don’t have any bad habits such as smoking or drinking coffee that will stain my teeth. I may not drink coffee, but I’m a Diet Coke addict and drink bourbon. I wanted to whiten my teeth by a few shades. I wanted them to be ridiculously white, like in those cheesy toothpaste commercials.
Believe it or not, I was about to head to Wal-mart to buy some Crest White Strips. However, I couldn’t remember if I could see results or not, when I used them. I was willing to try again, but I didn’t want to waste my money if they weren’t going to work or I wasn’t going to see the results that I wanted. The only thing I remembered was that they were rather uncomfortable and wouldn’t necessarily stay in place the entire length of the process. I had always wanted to get my teeth professionally whitened, but I hate going to the dentist and I haven’t been in a looooong time (longer than I care to admit!), and it is so pricey, so that idea was completely out. It was simply not going to happen. Did you know the average cost of professional teeth whitening at the dentist is $500?!?! That definitely isn’t easy on your wallet. Here’s an article that goes into details comparing the different methods.
I just love going out and attending events, especially when it involves bourbon and/or food. Back in early September, I remember seeing a post on facebook about winning tickets to White Dog Day at Buffalo Trace. I couldn’t find much information about the event, but I knew that I just had to go! I would’ve been willing to pay, because it was something that I really wanted to attend.
Around the end of September, I received an invitation in the mail for White Dog Day. I was so ecstatic, because it was something that had been on my mind, and I would’ve been bummed if I wasn’t able to attend. At the event, you would be able to go on a “behind the scenes” tour, do a toast with White Dog, sign a bourbon barrel, and have dinner and drinks.
Some people may be wondering, what is White Dog and why is this event so important? The event, White Dog Day at Buffalo Trace, is to celebrate their 243rd distilling season. They have continuously been operating since 1775. They didn’t even shut down during Prohibition, because they were one of the few distilleries that were licensed by the federal government to distill bourbon for ‘medicinal purposes.’ Buffalo Trace sits on approximately 378 acres of land (actually more now, since they purchased more land not too long ago!). Buffalo Trace has also won more awards than any other distillery in the world in the past decade.
After the Bourbon Social: Buffalo Brunch that we attended on October 9, we decided to take a tour of Woodford Reserve, since it was only 20 minutes away. This was the second time we had went to Buffalo Trace, and it was going to be the second time that we would visit Woodford Reserve.
Woodford Reserve is a distillery that is located in Versailles, Kentucky, and it is a bourbon produced by the Brown-Forman Corporation. It is also one of the smallest and oldest distilleries in Kentucky. In 1995, Woodford Reserve was listed on the National Register of Historic Places. It was designated a National Historic Landmark in 2000.
