February was such a great month, but it seemed to go by so quick! The month was full of awesome events, yummy restaurants, and great times spent with friends!
Since it was so action-packed and I felt like I had something going on almost everyday, I’ve kind of took a step back these past two weeks from everything. I’ve actually been working on launching, yet another series, which hopefully will go live on Monday!
How was your February? All I know is that I’m ready for spring to finally be here!
LEXINGTON COMFORT FOOD WEEK:
Lexington is a pretty huge foodie city, so we are no stranger to food events and festivals and weeks dedicated to food, such as Lexington Restaurant Week or Lexington Pizza Week. From January 25 to February 4, Lexingtonians had the chance to dine at many local restaurants for only $20.18 per person. Most restaurants offered two things for that price, either a starter and entree or an entree and dessert.
Some of the participating restaurants included: Le Deauville, Grillfish, Portofino, Bella Notte, Azur, Minglewood, Distilled at Gratz Park, Clawdaddy’s, The Ketch, The Blue Heron, Honeywood, Crust, Giuseppe’s, Brasabana, Red Light, Palmers Fresh Grill, and West Main Crafting.
There were so many restaurants I wanted to eat at, but there’s only so much time! My husband and I went to Palmers Fresh Grill, since we’ve never been there before! They offered a choice of appetizers and entrees. Appetizers included fried green tomatoes caprese with cornmeal crusted local tomatoes, buffalo mozzarella, herb pesto and fresh basil or sweet onion hushpuppies with poblano tartar and house-smoked ketchup. Entrees included shrimp and grits, blackened shrimp, creole cream and Weisenberger Mill gouda grits; cornmeal-crusted catfish, Colonel Jim’s cornmeal, bistro fries, creamy napa slaw, poblano tartar and smoked ketchup; or Lexington Pasta gnocci with basil pesto cream, sundried tomatoes and shaved parmesan.
The hushpuppies were my favorite part!
COLLABORATE WITH JENNY FROM JENFOLIO ART:
In early February, I got the chance to model for Jenny of Jenfolio Portrait Art, on a bridal portrait session in hopes of encouraging more brides to get these types of portraits done before their wedding. Jenny is a fine art photographer located in Lexington, Kentucky that specializes in many types of photography, including weddings and families.

It was such a fun photo shoot and it’s also good to collaborate with other creatives. It was also cool to get bridal portraits done almost seven years after my wedding! I highly recommend having a bridal session, if you are a future bride! I was also so happy with how the photos turned out. Jenny is an amazing photographer!
DEVILS BACKBONE DINNER AT THE VILLAGE IDIOT:
The event started off with a Welcome Beer, which was their Vienna Lager. We all even got a chance to talk with Jason Oliver, Brewmaster. The night was filled with many different types of beer, as well as a five course dinner! Each course was matched with a certain beer. We were informed about the beer itself, and as well as why the particular dish we were eating was paired with it!
This was my first time eating at The Village Idiot and I was impressed with how good everything was! It’s definitely a place that I will be back!
BLOGGER MEETUP AT THE HUB IN LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY:
The Lexington Blogger Fam and the Louisville Blogger Fam came together at a meet-up at The Hub in Louisville. They provided us with yummy appetizers: Old-Fashioned Meatballs (homemade Black Hawk meatballs in a house made marinara sauce topped with parmesan served with crostinis), Clifton Fried Pickles (Pop’s Pepper Patch sweet and spicy pickles, house ranch), and Bacon-Wrapped Dates (stuffed with pimento cheese, sorghum glaze). The dates were so amazing that I’m going to have to recreate these at home! I probably had about ten of them!!
BLOGGER BRUNCH AT WHOLE FOODS:
Before Valentine’s Day, Whole Foods was so kind to host a couple of us Lexington bloggers for a brunch. They provided each of us with a goodie bag, and they fed us as well. Whole Foods is a happening place for brunch! Who knew?!? Every seat was filled, and it’s also a pretty yummy place to eat!
VALENTINE’S DAY 2018:
My husband and I celebrated our 9th Valentine’s Day together by having dinner at OBC Kitchen, which is one of our favorite restaurants. We decided to go all out and eat an appetizer, an entree, and dessert, and also a cocktail or two! Every time we go, we can’t pass up the “Bacon in a Glass” as our appetizer. It’s just too delicious!
We had some friends come into town, so I got the chance to play tourist. We went to a lot of restaurants over the entire weekend! On Friday night, we went to Saul Good. On Sunday, we went to Carson’s for brunch, Country Boy Brewing and Ethereal Brewing for some drinks, Goodfella’s for a slice of pizza, and then headed to a friend’s house to play some poker. That following morning, we went to Josie’s for breakfast!
I highly recommend Carson’s!! It’s amazing! I haven’t been for dinner yet (only brunch), but I definitely plan to go back!
CELEBRATED THREE YEARS OF TEACHING:
I don’t really mention much about my personal life on my blog, but in mid-February, I celebrated three years of working from home as an ESL (English as a Second Language) teacher. It’s the job that I’ve worked the longest at, and the job that I’ve enjoyed the most!
WOLF SELFIES WITH WOLF RUN WILDLIFE REFUGE:
Around mid-February, Wolf Run Wildlife Refuge, located in Lexington, Kentucky was at Most Valuable Pets for a refuge. They brought one of their wolves to the store, so people could take pictures. Selfies were $10.00 per person and families were $25.00. All of the proceeds benefited Wolf Run. Wolf Run is a USDA and state licensed, non profit, sanctuary for animals. They give life back to the wild through education, rescue, rehabilitation, release, and lifelong sanctuary.
LAUNCHED A NEW SERIES – A LOCAL’S GUIDE TO LEXINGTON:
In late February, I launched a new series – A Local’s Guide to Lexington. I plan doing new posts for this series about every 6 to 8 weeks, including different categories, so I can highlight different businesses. My first post in my A Local’s Guide to Lexington series highlighted donut shops, places to have a romantic dinner for two, things to do to experience Lexington, the best places to have brunch, places to grab a slice of pizza, or where to have a cocktail or two. Be on the lookout for Volume 2 in the upcoming weeks!
A&W VIP NIGHT:
A&W reached out to me and some other local bloggers for a VIP night. I’ve always been a fan of A&W! What some people may not realize is that the A&Ws in Lexington are the only ones like them in the world. These are the new concept restaurants, so the only place you can find them is right here in Lexington. P.S. The headquarters are also in Lexington, Kentucky! They provided us with tons of food – the Papa Burger, fries, onion rings, poutine, and even one of their shakes! We definitely didn’t leave hungry!
I’m also launching a brand new series (the third on my blog) this coming Monday, and I can’t wait to share it with everyone! Hope everyone has a good weekend!
