A Local’s Guide to Lexington, Kentucky: Summer Events 2019

May 29, 2019

May is almost over and it’s that time of year where there are foodie events galore. It looks as if we have skipped over spring and went straight into summer. With summer comes warm and sunny weather and probably the most fun events of the year! Summertime means more opportunities to spend time outdoors.

Lexington has some wonderful events all throughout the summer, because the weather is so nice! I’ve put together a list of sixteen must attend events you cannot miss out on this summer. Many are family friendly and many others are FREE!

18 Summer Events Every Lexingtonian Must Attend:

1. CRAVE Lexington

Crave Lexington is Lexington’s signature food event that celebrates locally-crafted fare from 55+ food vendors and music from ten bands. There is also a classic car show as well! It’s been held every year since 2012, and I’ve made sure to attend every year since 2015.

CRAVE takes place at Masterson Station Park, which is one of the largest parks in Lexington at 660 acres. Admission is $8, but you will need to purchase tickets or a ticket package beforehand. You can purchase your tickets once you arrive, and you can purchase additional tickets as well if needed.

Each vendor offers at least three different options at various price points; $1 option, which is for a sample sized portion, $3 will get you a dish of a little bit bigger size, and $5 is a full-sized dish. Some vendors offer several different selections for each price point.

Details:

  • Dates: August 24 and August 25, 2019
  • Location: Masterson Station Park, 3051 Leestown Road, Lexington, Kentucky
  • Time: 12pm to 11pm on Saturday, August 24 and 12pm to 7pm on Sunday, August 25
  • Price: Free parking; $8 admission + tickets to purchase food (kids 10 and under are free). Weekend passes are $12.

2. Lexington Burger Week

Lexington Burger Week returns! Brace yourself. Since 2015, Lexington Burger Week has been gracing us with yummy burgers that you won’t be able to find anywhere else. This is a week that you will want to mark on your calendars. If you like plain burgers or the more traditional style burgers, then Burger Week isn’t for you. I’m kind of a burger snob. I much prefer the crazier, over the top burgers that have tons of toppings rather than a traditional style burger with just the bare minimum.

I’ve been every year, and plan to keep going every year that they hold this glorious event! The participating restaurants offer their special one-of-a-kind burger for $5. There will be 40 one-of-a-kind burgers that you can try (maybe even more!). It would be impossible to try them all, but wouldn’t it be fun to try?!?

Some of my favorite burgers from Burger Weeks of the past:

  • The Old Fashioned Burger (OFB) from Parlay Social – Lexington Burger Week 2018: It had two 3 ounce, crispy beef patties with havarti cheese, cherry and orange chutney, arugula, caramelized onions finished with angostura bitters, topped with signature Parlay Social old fashioned syrup on a potato bun.
  • The Triple Bacon LifeBrew Pub Burger from LifeBrew Pub (now closed) – Lexington Burger Week 2017: It was a 1/2 pound burger stuffed with garlic & herb cured bacon, topped with smoked gouda, Lex Light bacon jam, strips of honey roasted jalapeno crispy bacon strips and onion ring drizzled with bourbon glaze.
  • The JDI Bourbon Bacon Burger from JDI Grill & Tavern (now closed) – Lexington Burger Week 2016: It was a 1/3 pound Angus beef patty covered in housemade bourbon sauce, topped with caramelized onions, applewood smoked bacon, melted swiss cheese sauce, lettuce, tomato, and pickle!
Details:
  • Dates: July 8 through July 14, 2019
  • Location: Various Locations
  • Time: Check participating restaurants for operating hours

3. Lexington Restaurant Week

All of the best restaurants in the Bluegrass strut their stuff July 25th through August 4th. Lexington Restaurant Week is such an exciting week when it comes to food!

Lexington Restaurant Week has been a powerhouse event since 2013. During Lexington Restaurant Week, there is a prix fixe menu that you can order off of. Some restaurants offer two can dine for $27 options, and it usually includes two or three courses. Other restaurants may offer a deal for $27 per person. For example, you would share an appetizer, you each would get an entree, and you would get to share a dessert. At other restaurants, you would each get your own course. However, each restaurant offers different things, so be sure to check out the Lexington Restaurant Week guide once it’s released.

Details:

  • Dates: July 25, 2019 through August 4, 2019
  • Recurrence: Recurring daily
  • Location: Various Locations
  • Time: Check participating restaurants for operating hours
