Did everyone survive the snow we got earlier this week? Enjoy the snow days we had? Thank goodness it is the weekend again, which brings me to share with y’all over 100 events coming up in Lexington this week.

The ones on my radar are: It’s Your Night at the Museum at the Explorium of Lexington (it’s for adults only!) and the start of Lexington Comfort Food Week. Those are ones I will guarantee you won’t want to miss!

Plus, if yoga and fitness is your thing, then there are dozens of FREE classes happening this week!

  • 8am: 2018 Sweat Series with Adam Price from OTF (fitness/free): Classes are always complimentary and led by skilled instructors in our community. It’s a great opportunity to try something new in a safe space and kick start your health journey or mix up what you’re already up to. More informationHERE(Recurring Saturdays). 
  • 8:30am: Tour Keeneland Race Course (outdoors/kid friendly/horses): For guests interested in learning the history of Keeneland and an overview of operations for both racing and sales, guided walking tours are available. This outside walking tour with an experienced Tour Guide takes guests through the Keeneland Paddock and Grandstand, grounds, and when available, to the world-renowned Sales Pavilion. Following the trackside tour, fans are invited to visit the Keeneland Library, one of the world’s largest repositories of information related to the Thoroughbred.   • 9am: Let’s Move: Lexington at Free People (fitness/health/wellness): Free yoga class taught by Olivia Jones followed by snacks and shopping.
  • 9am: Champagne and Savasana at SALA Studio (fitness/health/wellness): Emily Monk will be leading our first Champagne and Savasana of the New Year! Join us fora FREE Vinyasa Flow class. Mimosas immediately following. Bring a mat and friend!
  • 10am: Barre WIth Art at 21c Museum Hotel (health/wellness/fitness): S T R E T C H your horizons at 21c Museum Hotel Lexington’s weekly Saturday bare series. Flex those creative muscles as you work through a variety of barre poses in our contemporary art-filled spaces, then hit the bar at Lockbox for a mimosa. Sessions are just $10 at the door and are led by certified barre instructors from Elle Fitness featuring ElleBARRE. Class is 21+; Price includes mimosa. BYOM + cash only.
  • 10:30am: Stay Warm In Winter Donut Social & Workshop at Man O’War Harley Davidson (party): Just cause it’s cold outside doesn’t mean you have to be! Riding can be enjoyable even in colder weather – learn how to stay toasty out there with our Stay Warm in Winter Donut Social & Workshop… January 20th at 10:30am! We’ll have door prizes and more. Join in on the Donut Social before the workshop!
  • 11am: 10th Anniversary & Crack Fries Contest at Hopcat (food): Free Crack Fries: We’re giving away free Crack Fries from 11a to 5p with any purchase. One order per person. Crack Fries Eating Contest: 
    Come 3pm, we’ll be hosting a Crack Fries eating contest. There’s a $5 entry fee that will be matched by HopCat with all proceeds being donated to Kentucky Equine Humane Center. Contestants must sign up in advance, either by email, by phone, or in person by 2:30pm on January 20th.   • 11am: Learn to Play Ukulele Edition at The Lyric Theatre and Cultural Arts Center (class/music): The Learn to Play Ukulele Edition will meet Saturday January 20, February 3, and February 10 from 11:00 am-1:00 pm. This program is free to anyone ages 14 and older. The Learn to Play Series at The Lyric Theatre introduces adults to the basics of learning to play an instrument. Our first edition introduces students to playing the Ukulele. There will be 3 instructor led session held at The Lyric Theatre.   • 12pm: Hiram Grooming Co. Takeover! at Illustrated Barber Grooming Co. (beauty): Hiram Grooming Co. will be set up at The Illustrated Barber Barbershop on Saturday, January 20 from Noon – 2pm. And it’s FREE! There will be tons of giveaways! T-shirts, combs, koozies, stickers, etc.!   • 2pm: Lexington’s Funniest Kid in the Bluegrass! at Joseph-Beth Booksellers (comedy/kid friendly): Join us as some of the funniest kids in Kentucky compete for the king of kids comedy! Host John Crissman Emcees: The Funniest Kid in the Bluegrass!

  • 3pm: Open Meditation at Granola Culture (health/wellness): Complete the weekend and begin your week refreshed and anew by joining us for guided meditation practice each Sunday afternoon. Each session consists of two 20-minute guided meditation periods with a short reading and discussion of the practice in-between. Open to everyone regardless of whether you are a beginner or an experienced meditator. Sessions are offered free of charge. No registration necessary. Come as you are!
  • 3pm: Ralph Curtis and the Nashville Imposters at Backstretch Sports Bar and Grill (music): A special Sunday Afternoon Concert Series appearance by Ralph Curtis and the Nashville Imposters will no doubt feature some great Country music! Join us at the “Stretch and enjoy great music and NFL Playoff Football!
  • 4pm: Black Jacket Symphony performing Led Zepplin IV at the Lexington Opera House (music): The Black Jacket Symphony offers a unique concert experience by recreating classic albums in a live performance setting with a first class lighting and video production. A selected album is performed in its entirety by a group of hand-picked musicians specifically selected for each album. With no sonic detail being overlooked, the musicians do whatever it takes to musically reproduce the album. Following the album and a brief intermission, the Black Jacket Symphony returns to the stage to perform a collection of greatest hits by the evening’s artist. Purchase tickets: HERE.
  • 4pm: New Year Budgets & Bourbon at Seventh + Lime (class/workshop): Tired of working hard, making all the money, but feeling like you have nothing to show for it?   • 6pm: Porch Welcome Signs at Cut and Paste Craft Studio – Lexington (arts/crafts): Our welcome signs are 4 feet tall, 10 inches wide and meant to stand on your front porch. We start with a solid wood board which you will stain with one of our dozen different wood stains. Then we add 6″ wooden letters to spell out the word “WELCOME” while leaving out the “O.” We will fill in that space with your choice of snowflake, heart or clover. As the new year progresses we’ll add paw prints, Easter eggs, stars, flowers, beach balls and more to make your sign a truly year-round decoration.   • 6:30pm: Cookie Decorating with Maddie’s Cookie Co with Level Up Lexington at Seventh + Lime – SOLD OUT!!(food/class/workshop): Learn how to decorate beautiful cookies using royal icing and different decorating techniques. In this class you will learn the proper consistency for royal icing, how to outline and fill cookies, and how to create texture and dimension with icing alone.   • 4pm: Panera Bread Fundraiser at Panera Bread – Richmond Road (food/fundraiser): From 4–8PM on Wednesday, January 24, dine at Panera Bread and 20% of your proceeds will be donated to KITA (Kentucky Interpreter and Translator Association)!   • 6pm: Bourbon 101 Class at The Kentucky Castle (alcohol/workshop/class): There will be an overview of what exactly bourbon is, as well as a brief look at bourbon’s history and how it’s made today. The class will also cover how to nose and taste bourbon like a professional and will sample a variety of bourbons and near-bourbons to explore the differences among bourbon styles. $35 per person, class includes guided bourbon flight and light food.   • 5:30pm: Docent Tour at 21c Museum Hotel Lexington (art/free): Explore the first multi-venue museum dedicated to the art of the 21st century in the nation. Grab a drink from Lockbox and allow the experts illuminate the secrets behind the works. Docent tours are available every Wednesday and Friday at 5:30pm. Free and open to the public.   • 6pm: Arnold Farr at Lynagh’s Irish Pub (music): Arnold Farr will preform at 6 PM. Come out and listen to some great music while having some great food.

  • 8pm: The McLain Family Band! at Red Barn Live! (music): The McLain Family Band officially kicks off their 2018 50th anniversary tour with a performance on the Red Barn Radio stage! Direct from the hills of Kentucky, The McLain Family Band has become internationally known as one of the most spontaneous, creative and spirited groups performing contemporary Appalachian Bluegrass music.   • 8pm: Zach Deputy at The Burl (music): In making his fourth album Wash It in the Water, Zach Deputy dreamed up a sunny and soulful new sound that fuses hip-hop, funk, and folky pop with the spirited rhythms of soca and calypso. With that sound embodied by the album’s brightly melodic and richly textured title track, Wash It in the Water finds the Georgia-based singer/songwriter/multi-instrumentalist mining his Puerto Rican and Cruzan heritage for inspiration. Thursday, January 25, 2018 – Lexington Comfort Food Week!

  • 12pm: Lexington Comfort Food Week at Various Restaurants (food): Welcome to Lexington Eats Week and the inaugural “Comfort Food Elevated” event! This Comfort Food Elevated event offers the foodie community an opportunity to dine at some of Lexington’s best locally-owned fine dining and fine casual establishments at a very comforting price.   • 12pm: Felted Clog KAL at ReBelle (arts/crafts/kid friendly): The holidays are over and (hopefully) so is your holiday knitting, time to knit something for yourself. For this month’s knit along, we are going to go with an old school pattern- the Felted Clogs from Fiber Trends. We will be meeting every Thursday in January as well as one bonus Sunday and you don’t have to attend the knit-ins to participate. Come join the fun!! (Recurring Thursdays).
  • 5:30pm: How Charming! A Kentucky Bride Event: Lexington 2018 at The Livery (wedding): How Charming! is Kentucky’s most loved bridal event and serves as a fresh alternative to the traditional bridal show. Wedding planning should be fun, fresh, and exciting! The finest of Kentucky wedding vendors come together in an environment that celebrates creativity and collaboration. Attendees mingle and mix with select wedding industry professionals in an intimate environment. There will be complimentary drinks and light bites, music, and a party atmosphere.   • 6pm: Trivia Night at Whole Foods – The Summit at Fritz Farm (games/kid friendly/free): Join Local Trivia Action for free team trivia with prizes and fun. (Recurring Thursdays).
  • 6pm: Mini-Market at The Casual Pint (food/shopping): Our 2nd Mini-Market will feature local artists showcasing and selling artwork and crafts, food, and all the craft beer you can drink. Mark your calendars and come support local art!
  • 6pm: Locked Out: A Tenant’s Perspective at The Lyric Theatre & Cultural Arts Center (causes): In recent years, there has been a growing conversation about what communities in the United States can do and are currently doing about the pervasive, persistent problem of evictions and the seemingly permanent impact being evicted has on residents.
  • 6:30pm: CycleYou Ride for Charity at Cycle You (fitness/health/wellness/fundraiser): Join us for a Charity Ride with CycleYou on January 25th at 6:30pm with our host Mary Catherine.   • 7pm: Trivia Night at Brasabana (games): Live Trivia! $25 Gift Certificate for 1st place, 2nd & 3rd get $15 & $10! (Recurring Thursdays).
  • 7pm: WinterFest 2018 presents Sweeney Todd at the Distillery Square Event Center (theater): Enjoy delicious food as you sit at your tables and visit the bar for fabulous drinks and cocktails!   • 7pm: Learn Somethin’ (FOR FREE!) at Broomwagon Coffee + Bikes (class): The topic for this class will be: What to Do if Your Bike is Stolen. Participants are encouraged to bring their own bikes for this class! We will record your bike’s serial number as well as photograph your bike to store in your customer profile. We will also provide a fancy “Missing” poster template so in the unfortunate event your bike is stolen, you can quickly plug in the information and get the word out there FAST. Classes are FREE and generally last around an hour with time after for questions. Please show up around 15-30 minutes before class to order food and drinks and find seating, classes start at 7PM SHARP.
  • 7pm: Feed the Kids Friday at Azur Restaurant and Patio (food/fundraiser): $60 per person plus tax and gratuity. $15 per person donated to The Backpack Food Program. The dinner includes Chef Jeremy Ashby’s interpretation of some of your favorite childhood dishes. Proceeds benefit The Backpack Food Program run by The Child Care Council of Kentucky.   • 5:30pm: Improv at The Kentucky Castle (comedy): Do you like to laugh? Come meet Rhonda! No, Rhonda isn’t a person but a team of Lexington based actors who offer a side-splitting Improv comedy experience. Based on suggestions from the audience the team creates laugh-out-loud scenes that you’ve never seen before and will never see again. Tickets available: HERE.
  • 5:30pm: Docent Tour at 21c Museum Hotel Lexington (art/free): Explore the first multi-venue museum dedicated to the art of the 21st century in the nation. Grab a drink from Lockbox and allow the experts illuminate the secrets behind the works. Docent tours are available every Wednesday and Friday at 5:30pm. Free and open to the public.   • 7pm: Craig Gerdes at The Break Room at Pepper (music): Embodied by the life of a traveler, Craig Gerdes sounds of rug-cutting outlaw country balanced with gritty ballads of strong heads and weak hearts.   • 7pm: Coat Drive Redux at Lussi Brown Coffee Bar (fundraiser/food/music): Bring your gently used coats, hats, gloves, and backpacks to donate to the New Life Day Center of Lexington. You’ll receive 10% off drinks for your donations. We’ll also have live music, artist TBA. And we’re bringing back “Make Your Own Flight” for this occasion. If you’ve been wanting to try more than one cocktail on our menu, this is the night to try 3 different ones for $12. Event is 21+ only.
