Remember when I said there were a lot of murals?? Well, today, I’m featuring SIXTEEN more murals, along with their locations! There are still many around the city that I haven’t featured yet, but I plan to in the future. Last weekend, I drove around in the rain to capture at least five more murals to feature in this post, including the new mural at The Venue that is of “Kentucky Icons.”
“Louis Armstrong Mural”
- Artist: Sérgio Odeith
- Location: Corner of Elm Tree Lane and Corral Streets
- Details about the mural: Celebrating the storied musical past of Lexington’s east end, this 30 by 70-foot Louis Armstrong mural was painted by renowned graffiti artist Sérgio Odeith after his first Lexington mural was accidentally power- washed away.
“Breaking the Silence”
- Artist: Dani Greene
- Location: The intersection of Loudon Avenue and Broadway – near Max’s Loudon Square Buffet
- Details about the mural: The country’s drug epidemic has killed thousands and devastated families and communities. This painting represents hope over heroin addiction.
“Know Your History. Then Make History.“
- Artist: Sundiata Rashid
- Location: 300 block of Race Street
- Details about the mural: This mural was designed to tell the story of the neighborhood where it resides, and it even features some of the neighborhood’s children. Rashid wanted to tie the past and present together by painting the past in black and white and the future in color.
“Fox Mural”
- Artist: Unkown
- Location: Prism Salon, 312 Corral Street, Lexington, Kentucky 40508
“Horseshoe Tattoo Mural”
- Artist: Unknown
- Location: Horseshoe Tattoo, 357 Southland Drive, Lexington, Kentucky 40503
“The Market for Music“
- Artist: Michael Burrell
- Location: 500 block of Southland Drive – near 531 Southland Drive
- Details about the mural: Lexington artist, Michael Burrell, painted this piece of the Southland Farmer’s Market. This mural features a group of bluegrass musicians playing various instruments.
“Stockyard Commons”
- Artist: Dronex, Inc.
- Location: 232 Lisle Industrial Road, Lexington, Kentucky
- Details about the mural: This funky mural was created by Dronex, and features a colorful collage of cattle, chickens and pigs.
“Old Style Advertising Wall Art“
- Artist: Unknown
- Location: Saul Good Restaurant, 1808 Alysheba Way, Lexington, Kentucky
- Details about the mural: Saul Good Restaurant commissioned an artist to paint this traditional wall advertising on the side of its restaurant. The mural features an Anita Madden quote.
“Lexington History and Culture“
- Artist: Esteban Camacho Steffensen
- Location: Whitaker Bank Ballpark, 207 Legends Lane, Lexington, Kentucky 40505
- Details about the mural: Home to the Lexington Legends baseball team, the Whitaker Bank Ballpark features four different murals painted by this Portland artist. Each reflects the history of Lexington baseball and Lexington culture.
“Horse Mural”
- Artist: Unknown
- Location: On the corner of West New Circle Road and Old Paris Road – near the 100 block of West New Circle (across the street from Popeye’s).
“Nitrosonic Studios Mural”
- Artist: Dani Greene
- Location: Nitrosonic Studios, 701 East Loudon Avenue, Lexington, Kentucky 40505
“Kentucky Icons Mural”
- Artist: Jonas Never
- Location: Floyd’s 99 Barbershop at The Venue – Malabu Drive and Nicholasville Road
- Details about the mural: It’s a 55 -foot by 25-foot mural featuring Kentucky icons such as Loretta Lynn, Chris Stapleton, Tim Couch, Anthony Davis, and George Clooney holding a glass of bourbon. Also included is a section showing six horses racing at Keeneland and the Kentucky Theatre marquee.
“Beaver Mural”
- Artist: Unknown
- Location: On the side of Cha Cha’s – 527 South Upper Street, Lexington, Kentucky 40508
“Oneness Boutique Mural “
- Artist: Sheryo and the Yok
- Location: It is located on the side of the Oneness Boutique on Jersey St., near the corner with Maxwell.
“Colette Miller Wings”
- Artist: Colette Miller
- Location: DV8 Kitchen, 867 South Broadway #140, Lexington, Kentucky – on the back of the building
- Details about the mural: Colette Miller is a Los Angeles-based artist who has painted murals all over the world. She created the “Global Angel Wings Project” in 2012. Colette said that she paints these murals to remind humanity that we are angels of this earth.
“I Love You Kentucky”
- Artist: Unknown
- Location: Shop Local Kentucky, 212 Woodland Avenue, Lexington, Kentucky 40502
