Many people who know me, know that I love fall. There are many great things about fall, and one of them is college football. I live in the South, and in the South, college football is a big deal. With football, comes tailgating, and tailgating is almost like a religion here. It’s an all day affair! People dress up in their team’s favorite colors and bring enormous amounts of food to enjoy before the big game.
Whether someone is homegating or tailgating, food is always going to be involved!
I am a huge foodie! I love to eat, but I also love creating recipes and cooking. I love taking a dish and elevating it to the next level by making my own seasoning and sauces, and adding delicious toppings to it that the majority of people wouldn’t think of. I always like finding healthier alternatives to classic favorites. After all, MorningStar Farms® products are not only for vegetarians – they are for everyone!
When you think football, it wouldn’t be complete without grilling out. Football and grilling out go hand in hand. Since I’ve always been curious about vegetarian options, I picked up MorningStar Farms® Spicy Black Bean Burger, which is America’s #1 Veggie Burger. It’s one of those things that you have to grill it to believe it!!
While shopping for the burgers for the game, I picked up some decorations, napkins and some pom poms in my team colors. I had to get into the game time spirit. I was ready to root for my team!
My husband decided to fire up the grill and get those burgers cooking just in time for the big game. My team is doing really good this year, so it’s been really exciting to watch them win! Just because someone chooses to eat a veggie cuisine or is a vegetarian, doesn’t mean they should be excluded from grilling out and the tailgating festivities. There are plenty of options available!
I decided to elevate the spicy bean burger with an avocado cream sauce. This sauce is super easy to make and pairs perfectly with the burgers. It’s creamy and so delicious!
Ingredients:
- 1 avocado
- 1 lime, juiced
- 1/2 cup of greek yogurt
- salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
- Slice the avocado in half and remove the pit.
- Scoop out the flesh and place into bowl.
- Cut the limes into wedges and squeeze the juice on top on the avocados.
- Mix the greek yogurt with the rest of the ingredients.
- Season with salt and pepper.
- Use a masher until it’s smooth.
The freshness of the avocado combined with the spiciness from the burger makes it a winning combination! It’s super delicious!
I kept the MorningStar Farms® Chik Patties® simple by adding fresh tomatoes and lettuce and topped with a potato bun. It’s simply a classic that you can’t help but enjoy!
Do you like tailgating or homegating?
