National Pizza Day: Lexington, Kentucky Edition

national pizza day lexington kentucky

Everyone that knows me personally, or follows me on social media, knows how much I LOVE pizza, so I could never forget about February 9 aka National Pizza Day! I love pizza so much that I get sent pizza memes and all things related to pizza on a daily basis. That’s how much I LOVE pizza! Back in 2015, I even went as Pizza Rat for Halloween from the viral video. I own several different pieces of pizza related clothing – a onesie, t-shirts, necklaces, and much more.So much so that people have called me “The Pizza Queen!” About thirty friends of mine go four-wheeling together and we have even had our own jerseys made with our nicknames on the back. Of course, my nickname would be pizza related – it’s Pepperoni!

I compiled a list of all the pizza restaurants in Lexington, as well as some other restaurants that have yummy pizza on their menu. Now, this should give you an idea of where to celebrate this delicious day!

Pizza Places in Lexington, Kentucky:

1. Goodfellas

Goodfellas has been serving pizza by the slice in the Lexington, Kentucky and the Greater Cincinnati area since 2005. Our pizza is gigantic, 22 inches, serving a true New York style pizza by the slice. Our dough is made fresh daily, hand tossed and baked off on the stone. Entertaining our guests is part of our service, tossing the dough and performing dough tricks to great energetic music is always a crowd pleaser.

2. Mellow Mushroom

Homegrown since 1974, Mellow Mushroom Pizza Bakers provides guests with a dining experience filled with colorful art, eclectic music and quality food that comforts the soul. We are vegan friendly and our menu is a collection of pizzas, calzones, hoagies and salads. We also offer a wide selection of draft and bottled beers.

3. Big City Pizza

Award winning locally owned New York and Chicago style pizza.

4. Brick Oven Pizzeria

We make every day from scratch in the store. It took many months of trial and error before we got it just right. All the components are carefully measured out and combined at the exact right temperature before we even get going. After we create the dough, we age it to excellence. Like a fine wine, it’s not ready at the moment of creation. It has to be lovingly monitored every hour and nudged in the right direction until it’s ready. We fire it up to 800 degrees and spin the pizza though for two minutes. What comes out is circular perfection: a geometrical expression of our love, precision and dedication. It’s made right every time and each bite is a testament to the passion we bring to this art.

5. Pazzo’s Pizza Pub

Pazzo’s Pizza Pub is situated just off the corner of S. Limestone and Avenue of Champions. We invite you to savor our delicious hand-tossed pizzas or house-made wing sauces accompanied by one of our 47 craft beers on draft. Get here early to grab a seat and a pitcher for Pint Night on Wednesdays or to cheer on the CATS during basketball season!

6. Crust

We do things a little differently here. We make dough fresh, with a hand from mother nature (it’s naturally fermented for 12 hrs). We dry our own oregano on the branch, fire-roast our peppers, and bake fresh breads every morning. We believe food tastes better when cooked by wood and stone. We think food should be tasty, seasonal, wholesome, and humane.

7. Pie Five Pizza

It’s about the RIGHT ingredients, starting with the dough, which we make fresh for you every day, throughout the day. It doesn’t stop there. We make our all-natural, preservative free (and naturally fat free) Tuscan Marinara and Spicy Marinara in house every day as well. Everything from our hand-cut veggies to our homemade desserts can make you feel good about what you’re eating at Pie Five. We’re all about making your pizza the RIGHT way, just for you!

“The year is 1973, do you remember back then? I tell one of my crew, Willy, to find a place where me and my guys can hangout, relax and make plans for future endeavors. Willy does just that. Our new “social club” is great, except my wise guys want food too. So, Willy knocks a hole in the wall and builds a kitchen. He starts making pizzas and, in a matter of days, the aroma gets around da neighborhood. “Civilians” start comin’ by, askin’ to buy pizza. Us, being good neighbors, oblige. And before ya know it we got a line around the block! Next thing I know, we’re goin’ legit! We start makin’ more money in da pizza business than our other…stuff. I tell Willy to run with it! Now, we’re in da pizza business full time!”

LaRosa’s is known for its pizza, rondos (rounds of pizza dough with sauce and cheese) and calzones. In February 1975, Rose Street and Euclid Avenue, Lexington had two locations of this popular Cincinnati pizzeria. The LaRosa’s Family Pizzeria on Richmond Road is scheduled to open this summer. Skyline, another Cincinnati favorite, is slated to open this year in Lexington.
