After about taking a two month hiatus, I decided to bring the "Things to Do in Lexington, Kentucky: The Week Of..." posts back. There are so many events going on in Lexington in a given week that it would be impossible to include them all, so I’ve handpicked the events and included the ones that I think everyone would enjoy the most! #visitlex #sharethelex #events #kentucky #travel #lexington

Friday, August 3, 2018 – Lexington Restaurant Week

  • ALL DAY: Lexington Restaurant Week at Various Locations (food): For 10 days, all of the very best local restaurants in the Bluegrass strut their stuff with multi-course dinners to wow you. Some deals are $27 three course dinners or two can dine for $27. See restaurants and menus: HERE.
  • 6pm: Munchkin Tea Party at Woodland Park (kid friendly): In anticipation of the pre-show theme, children ages 3-8 are invited to a Munchkin Tea featuring snacks, activities and a special musical performance. Little ones may don their most glamorous outfit and meet characters from the Ballet Under the Stars pre-show. Tea participants must be registered for tickets in advance. Tickets are $16 (with tax) and cover the child’s cost of admission to Ballet Under the Stars (Also, on August 4 and 5 at 6pm).
  • 7pm: Lakeside Live at Lexington Green Lakeside (music): Come enjoy free live music, delicious food, and a great atmosphere! Lakeside Live is family friendly. They also allow your furry friends! As always Jax Lexington will feature J. Render’s Southern Table & Baralso known as the most delicious BBQ in the bluegrass! This is self serve. You also have the option of eating at Bronte Bistro (Lexington) or Palmers Fresh Grill with full service, or order to go and eat right by the stage! (Also, on August 4 at 7pm).
  • 8pm: A Chorus Line presented by The LEX at The Lexington Opera House (performance)This Tony and Pulitzer Prize Winning musical is one of the cornerstones of American Musical Theatre! A Chorus Line is the story of 17 dancers, vying for 8 spots in a new Broadway musical. Through breathtaking numbers including “At The Ballet,” “Music and The Mirror” and “One,” we learn the personal stories of these talented performers, and experience the guts, grit and glory of going after your dreams. The LEXington Theatre Company combines Today’s Broadway Stars with Tomorrow’s Broadway Hopefuls, to produce first-rate professional theatre, right here in Lexington! Tickets available: HERE.
  • 8pm: Ballet Under the Stars at Woodland Park (performance): The event begins with a pre-show youth production at 8 p.m. The main show featuring professional dancers from Kentucky Ballet Theatre begins at 9 p.m. Please bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating. Patrons may pack a picnic dinner or buy concessions onsite. For more information, please call (859) 288-2925. This year’s pre-show production will be “The Wizard of Oz”. The pre-show is a wonderful chance for young dancers from all area dance schools to come together in Kentucky’s premier outdoor ballet event. This is truly a community production and an excellent opportunity to showcase the young talent and quality dance instruction of central Kentucky. $6 per person; children 3 & under are free (Also, on August 4 and 5 at 8pm).
  • 9pm: Free Show Weekend at Willie’s Locally Known (music): Feel the love with all FREE SHOWS this weekend at Willie’s featuring The Johnson Brothers, Six Pack Poet and Bruce Lewis!!!

 

Saturday, August 4, 2018 – Lexington Restaurant Week

  • 9am: Canoeing on the KY River at Raven Run Sanctuary (outdoors): Their canoeing program is designed to teach you how to properly paddle a canoe, how to understand river formations, safety gear and considerations, and how to plan your own future paddling trips. Once their equipment has been fitted, you will go on a relaxing paddle down the scenic Kentucky River giving you the opportunity to enjoy unique wildlife observations opportunities, natural formations, and the tranquility that these remote locations have to offer.   • 9am: Morning Yoga with Emily at Castlewood Park (fitness/health): Join YMCA fitness instructor Emily for a FREE Yoga class as a part of the Plant and Play Summer Fitness series! Meet near the “barn” (next to the playground, just off Highland Park) before 9am. Meet new friends, catch up with old friends, and get some great exercise while you stretch, meditate, and take in beautiful Castlewood Park! All ages and abilities are welcome! Mats and equipment available first come first serve. This class is outdoors in a shaded, grassy area. Bring water, and your own towel or mat (just in case!).
  • 9am: Blue Grass Stockyards Farmers Market! at 4561 Iron Works Pike (food): The Blue Grass Stockyards is the hub of all thing Kentucky grown! Come meet your local farmers and take home locally grown fruits, veggies, eggs and more. (Every Saturday until November 3).
  • 10am: Barre, Meet Bar at 21c Museum Hotel (fitness/health): Join Elle Fitness at 21c Museum Hotel Lexington’s this Saturday for Barre, Meet Bar 4th of July Pre Party Fire class! Fire up a sweat then hit the bar at Lockbox for a mimosa. ELLE SPECIAL-15% off 5, 10 and 20 Elle Fitness Class Packages! Flex those creative muscles as you work through a variety of barre poses in our contemporary art-filled spaces. Sessions are just $10 at the door. Class is 21+; Price includes mimosa.   • 11am: Walking Tour with the Curator at The Arboretum (outdoors): Participants will trek through the Walk Across Kentucky, going “off the beaten path” onto the mulched trails; be sure to dress for comfort and weather-readiness! Topics will be selected monthly to showcase the most interesting and timely aspects of the Walk, the regions they represent, as well as conservation and curation in general. Cost is $5.

Carly Moffa will be entertaining once again, only this time as an American Idol veteran!   • 7pm: Trivia Night at Good Foods (games): Come out on Saturday nights in the cafe as there is a battle of the brains. Bring your team, enjoy some food and grab a beer for this family-friendly trivia night where the winners take home the glory AND the swag.

She maintains a busy studio and performance schedule, performing solo and with numerous bands around the area.

  • 10:30am: Yoga in the Garden with Hannah at High Art on Coffee (fitness/health): Yoga class with Hannah in our garden. Fun for all ages!
  • 11am: Sunday Morning Yoga at Ashland, the Henry Clay Estate (fitness/health)Slow down, breath deeply and feel. Join us for a free, all-levels practice on the lawn under the trees. Whether this is your first yoga practice or your thousandth, this is a great opportunity to be with your tribe in a beautiful environment with many people who love yoga and want to share it.   • 7pm: I’m So Excited Saved By The Bell Trivia I’m So Scared! at Rock House Brewing (games): Put on your thinking cap, preppy. It’s Saved By The Bell trivia time. Rock House heads to Bayside and you’re all invited. Grab a beer and compete for your chance to win prizes.

  • 6pm: Garden to Plate Seasonal Cooking with Shelby Wheeler at The Living Arts & Science Center (food/class): Eating seasonally is a fun and easy way to enjoy healthy and delicious food! Sign up for one or both classes focusing on exciting ways to prepare super fresh and local fruits and vegetables. Using what is ripe at the moment, each class will provide new food prep techniques, lots of food sampling, and recipes to continue your super fresh cooking at home. Tickets available: HERE.
  • 6pm: Totally Tubular Tuesday Ride at Bicycle Face (health/fitness): A fast ride with smooth a pace line. The goal of this ride is to provide an opportunity for all ability levels to improve speed and skill by riding at a high tempo in a tight group. All riders WILL ride together until we get out of town and there will be plenty opportunities for regrouping. Beers to follow naturally. (Every Tuesday until November 6 at 6pm)
  • 6pm: Shop + Sip With Draper James & The Plus Life (shopping/cause): Draper James Lexington and Miranda of The Plus Life Blog are partnering to host a shop + sip event benefitting the Marcum & Wallace Hospital Foundation. Join us for champagne and dessert and be the first to shop the Draper James FALL collection, including the collaboration with plus size fashion brand, Eloquii. 15% of the proceeds from the event will be donated to the Marcum & Wallace Hospital foundation, which partners with donors to make lives better and communities stronger, with a special emphasis on those who are poor or under-served. The Foundation raises funds that empower and equip Marcum and Wallace Hospital, located in rural Irvine, Kentucky, to extend its healing ministry with compassion and innovation. Enjoy food from all your local favorites & drinks from the bar!   • 8pm: “The Fearless Vampire Killers” at the Cult Film Series at Al’s Bar (movie): “The Fearless Vampire Killers” (1967) – Vampire hunter Professor Abronsius (Jack MacGowran) and his faithful assistant, Alfred (Roman Polanski), are traveling across Transylvania when they stop to rest at a suspicious-looking inn. That night, they witness the innkeeper’s daughter, Sarah (Sharon Tate), being whisked away by Count von Krolock (Ferdy Mayne), an obvious vampire, and pursue him to his nearby castle. They break in, only to be invited to stay by the unfazed count, and plot to rescue Sarah and destroy their murderous host.

  • 8am: LFCHD Community Farmers’ Market at Various Locations (food): The Lexington-Fayette County Health Department will bring farmers from the Bluegrass Farmers’ Market and the Lexington Farmers Market together to give the community a chance to buy fresh fruits and vegetables.   • 11:30am: Win’sday Lunch Break in Triangle Park at Triangle Park (food/music): On ‘Win’sday, August 1, bring your lunch down to Triangle Park and be entered to win a $10 Gift Card to Goodfellas Pizzeria. Thursday, August 9, 2018 – Thursday Night Live

  • 3pm: Greater Gardenside Market at the Gardenside Shopping Center (food): Greater Gardenside is excited to host the Lexington Farmers’ Market this summer for a series of community pop-up markets. Expect farmers, local vendors, and fun community programming for the entire family. This collaboration is intended to highlight the exciting neighborhood and business offerings in the Greater Gardenside area while also providing an exciting new way for our neighbors to meet local farmers.
  • 5pm: Thursday Night Live at Cheapside Park: Get downtown every Thursday! Join thousands of your closest friends for live music, local food and beverage vendors, and the hottest party in town. The event takes place each week at the Fifth Third Bank Pavilion at Cheapside Park. This event is rain or shine! (Every Thursday until October 11).
  • 5:30pm: 130th Anniversary Celebration Event at Waveland State Historic Site (bourbon): inviting you to be part of our history. Join Four Roses at Waveland State Historic Site, The Joseph Byron House, in Lexington, Kentucky for an exclusive, historical celebration event. The first 50 guests to arrive at 5:30 p.m. will be admitted at the door and will have the opportunity to enjoy award-winning Bourbon and complimentary hors d’oeuvres while mingling with Master Distiller Brent Elliott. A unique selection of artifacts and memorabilia commemorating the 130-year history of Four Roses will be on-site to explore. Cost is $10 suggestion at the door (cash only). All proceeds will benefit the Kentucky State Parks Foundation.
  • 6pm: Cookin’ on the Salt Rox with Salt Rox Owner, John Tucker at Housewarmings (food/class): Learn from Inventor John Tucker how the Salt Rox will enhance and season your Food Cooked on the Big Green Egg! (Or your Grill, Stove Top or Oven) Salt Rox Pink Himalayan Salt Cooking Plates are the only salt plates manufactured to be safe for cooking, grilling and baking. You’ll get to sample Pork Tenderloin, Portabella Mushrooms, Onions and Spinach, and Chicken with Salt Rox Poultry Seasoning Egg!   • 6pm: Thursday Trivia at The Summit! (games): Thursday Live Team Trivia at The Barn Door Tap Room inside Whole Foods Market. Join Local Trivia Action for free team trivia with prizes and fun. (Every Thursday until October 4).
  • 7pm: Bark in the Park at Whitaker Bank Ballpark (dogs/sports/cause): Bring your family and friends (and pups too!) to Kentucky Ale #ThirstyThursday and Pepsi in the 859 #BarkinthePark at Whitaker Bank Ballpark! (Also, on August 23 and August 30 at 7pm).
  • 8pm: Trivia at Blue Stallion Brewing Company (games): Get off the internet for once and come hangout with your BFFs for trivia! There is prizes for the top three winners, and you can snag a free appetizer from Dad’s Favorites Deli by having the best team name. Good luck! (Also, on August 9 and 16).
  • 9pm: The Funniest Comics East of the Mississippi Contest at The Twisted Cork (comedy): Season 2 of the Funniest Comic East of the MIssissippi Contest! This year, it is being hosted by The Twisted Cork in Lexington! Each month 20 comics will battle it out for Prizes and 3 spots in the finals! After 4 months, 12 comics will resume there combat until one winner is declared. That winner will receive $500 and an all expanses paid trip to America’s Got Talent casting producer, for a 1 on 1 interview. Last years winner Shawn Reynolds enjoyed his trip and this years winner will too! Spread the word, let everyone know, this year it is getting twisted at the Cork and they are gonna crown a new winner! (Next show August 23 at 9pm).
  • 9:15pm: Tony Hinchcliffe at Comedy Off Broadway (comedy): Tony Hinchcliffe heads to Comedy Off Broadway in Lexington Kentucky bringing his brand new hour of stand up comedy. Tickets available: HERE(Also, on August 10 at 7:15pm & 9:45pm and August 11 at 7:15pm & 9:45pm).
