Honor Tradition, Embrace Change | Buffalo Trace Distillery

September 16, 2016

Buffalo Trace Distillery is one of the many bourbon distilleries in Central Kentucky (However, it is not on the Kentucky Bourbon Trail). Buffalo Trace is located in Frankfort, Kentucky. It has historically been known by other names, including the George T. Stagg Distillery and the O.F.C. Distillery. The Buffalo Trace brand was introduced in August 1999. Buffalo Trace claims the distillery is the oldest continuously-operating distillery in the United States. It is claimed that the location of Buffalo Trace was once an ancient buffalo crossing on the banks of the Kentucky River, so they then in return named the distillery…

Butternut Squash Gnocchi With a Bourbon Cream Sauce

September 14, 2016

I’ve been wishing it was fall for over a month now, since we have ridiculously hot and humid summers here in the Bluegrass State. However, we still have September to get through first. I wanted to channel my inner fall and try to summon the autumn gods to get here faster, so I made a fall-inspired recipe. It’s all about the law of attraction. Maybe, just maybe, fall could come sooner if I put out all those “sweater wearing, boot doting, hot toddy sipping” vibes out there. At least one could hope. Before I get into the recipe, I’ll tell…

A Stop on the Bourbon Trail: Four Roses

September 13, 2016

The Kentucky Bourbon Trail consists of nine distilleries. There are A LOT more distilleries in Kentucky (after all, we are responsible for 95% of the world’s bourbon), and there is even another trail that is called the Kentucky Bourbon Craft Trail, which consists of eleven other distilleries. Liquor Barn is the largest retailer of beer, spirits, and wine in Kentucky. The Liquor Barn in Hamburg (for those non-Kentuckians, I’m NOT referring to Germany – it’s a part of Lexington) is approximately 53,000 square feet (it’s freaking massive!) and they sell over 200 different bourbons (yes, OVER TWO HUNDRED) and NO, that isn’t…

Red, White, and Boom 2016 | Kentucky’s Largest Country Music Festival

September 12, 2016

Over Labor Day weekend, my husband, our friends, and I attended Red, White, and Boom 2016. Red, White, & Boom has been a country music festival in Lexington ever since the Fourth of July in 2004. It first started as a one day event, then it expanded to two days, and now it is three days long. It used to happen on the Fourth of July, but this is the first year for it to take place over Labor Day weekend. Red, White, & Boom is sponsored by WBUL-FM 98.1. It used to be devoted to acts exclusively on a…

September Marks the Beginning of National Bourbon Heritage Month

September 1, 2016

It should come to no surprise that I talk about bourbon a lot here on my blog and on my instagram. Here, in Kentucky, bourbon is a huge deal. After all, we are responsible for 95% of the world’s bourbon. Yes, I said IN THE WORLD. Kentucky is the only state that has the perfect natural mix of climate, conditions and pure limestone water necessary for producing the world’s greatest bourbon. Well, the first of September marks an exciting time! September is Bourbon Heritage Month. And no, it’s NOT one of those social media driven, fake holidays, it’s real. It…
