Food Truck Friday

June 16, 2016

It seems like over the past few years, Lexington’s food scene has been growing exponentially. With all the countless local restaurants, the food trucks, the food festivals and events, it would be hard to disagree. There are so many hidden treasures that I think most people aren’t aware of. I mean just in July, there is Lexington Burger Week and Lexington Restaurant Week and in August, there is Crave. That’s not even considering all the other events that are taking place around the city and region. I do my best to stay in the know about all the events taking place. At…

National Bourbon Day + Cocktail Recipe

June 14, 2016

Today is June 14. In Kentucky, it’s especially an important day. Why, may you ask? Today is National Bourbon Day. We are responsible for 95% of the world’s bourbon, so of course, we are going to celebrate it. It’s to celebrate America’s native spirit. There’s actually a whole month dedicated to bourbon; Bourbon Heritage Month, but it’s in September. Something important to remember: All bourbon is whiskey, but not all whiskey is bourbon. I’m not going to make this a history lesson or an informative session on the differences. Instead, I’m going to show you how to make a yummy…

A Stop on the Bourbon Trail: Heaven Hill

May 26, 2016

In the same weekend that we went to Maker’s Mark (which I mentioned in a post earlier this week), we decided to go to Heaven Hill, since it was approximately 18 miles away from Maker’s Mark. Heaven Hill is in Bardstown, Kentucky and is around 65 miles, if you are coming straight from Lexington. Bardstown is Kentucky’s second oldest city and was named one of the best small towns in America. Bardstown has been the site of bourbon distilleries since 1776 and is known as the ‘Bourbon Capital of the World.’ Heaven Hill offers two different tours; the Mashbill Tour and the…

A Stop on the Bourbon Trail: Maker’s Mark

May 24, 2016

I’m sure that most people know, especially Kentuckians, but Kentucky is responsible for 95% of the world’s bourbon. So, it should come as no surprise that the Kentucky Bourbon Trail is in Kentucky. It obviously wouldn’t be anywhere else. This past weekend, we decided to take a trip 70 miles from Lexington to Loretto, Kentucky. There you can find the Maker’s Mark distillery. You drive through winding, country roads to get there, but it’s definitely worth the trip. Our goal is to visit all the distilleries on the Bourbon Trail, so we can receive our free t-shirts (If you visit all…

The Local Taco

May 23, 2016

The stretch of road that runs through downtown is covered with many different kinds of restaurants, bars, and local businesses. Located at 315 South Limestone sits The Local Taco. I love how they state what they are about: “Embracing the simple pleasures of Tex-Mex cuisine with the traditions & character of Southern food culture.” A lot of the ingredients are local, which is a huge plus in my book. Currently, The Local Taco has six locations; located in Kentucky, Tennessee, and South Carolina, and two opening up in Alabama. Also, on Saturdays and Sundays from 10am to 3pm, they offer…
